Nutritional and Dietary Advice, and Allergy Testing

What can nutrition do for me?

A healthy diet will provide your body with the right nutrients to maintain health. However, nutrition can also be used therapeutically to help resolve existing health problems.

Some examples include;

Example conditions Food and nutrition - (outline only)
Arthritis and other joint problems, IBS, sore muscles Eating foods with an anti-inflammatory action and avoiding foods which can irritate
Hayfever, eczema, joint problems, asthma Avoiding 'histamine' foods while supporting the immune system
Tiredness, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, M.E., frequent infections such as colds, thrush and cystitis Immune boosting and supporting foods, foods to sustain the kidneys, thyroid and other organs
IBS, indigestion, bloating, constipation (hard or infrequent stools), piles, wind, bloating, Candida Removing allergens and foods causing intolerance from the diet and including calming foods and rebalancing the gut
Insomnia All-round good nutrition and specific attention to food or imbalances which may aggravate sleep difficulties
Periods problems, cyclical moodiness, tender breasts, hot flushes, dryness, other hormonal problems Include foods with the correct nutrients to support the endocrine system.
Migraine, frequent headaches, poor concentration Change to less toxic foods, improve nutrition
Sinus congestion, mucus conditions Support the immune system and address food intolerances
Stress and tension Replace foods which cause stress to the body with alternative non-irritating food and drink and ensure correct nutrition for muscle function
Weight problems Non-calorie counted, non-depravation, 'non-fat-free' healthy diet

How can nutrition help?

In Britain these days most of us have access to an abundance of foods so it maybe hard to imagine that we could be malnourished. However, not all of the food available to us is healthful and the stresses of modern day living can draw heavily on the vitamins and minerals we do get from food.

A Nutritional Consultation will help to identify deficiencies which may be causing some of your symptoms. Modifying your diet can help you obtain more nourishment from food. If you choose to take supplements as well, a high quality range is available at your consultation.

By minimising the intake of foods the body finds toxic and maximising nutrients your body will have more energy and vitality to keep you healthy.

Many common ailments may be influenced by diet and nutrition. Taking responsibility for your own (and family's) health through diet could help improve health and well-being.

What happens at a Consultation?

diet and nutrition consultation

Details of your current and past health and what you usually eat and drink are discussed. A Nutritional Profile is then completed based on the information you have given plus a questionnaire - a simple check to help indicate what nutrients you may be deficient in and to highlight any possible allergy or intolerance.

Advice is then offered of where you can make positive changes your diet including specific advice based on any ailments you may have and the results of the Profile. The practical suggestions made will include ideas to help you to make any changes gradually and easily with the aim of improving your well-being both short and long term.

Each consultation is tailored to you, so that you get the best out of the appointment.

  • Advice to help improve your general well-being/energy
  • Nutritional profile to help identify deficiency
  • Supervised and personalised food diary to help identify food intolerances and triggers for cravings (if necessary/optional)
  • Guidance on how to improve your diet in small and/or major ways customized and stepped to what you feel able change
  • Advice on healthier (still tasty!) cooking methods
  • Advice for 'new' diets e.g. vegetarians and vegans, glutenpfree, wheat free
  • Arrange a test for allergies/certain conditions.
  • Help with finding alternatives to allergy/intolerance foods

My approach is to recommend rather than criticise and help you with any changes you choose to make.

How long is the appointment?

Between 1 and 1½ hours. This is arranged when you book the appointment.

How many appointments will I need?

Plenty of 'food for thought' (pardon the pun) and help is provided on the first appointment.

Many people find that just one appointment will provide them with the knowledge to be able to make healthy choices about what they eat and drink and improve their nutritional intake and well-being.

Some people choose to have additional appointments to review a food diary or their progress. An appointment is not needed to re-order or collect any food supplements.

Are supplements necessary?

Although supplements may be useful, the primary advice is about your diet and how to obtain the best nutrition and well-being from it. If you do choose to use vitamin or mineral supplements these can be supplied from two high quality reputable suppliers who can deliver directly to you.

Allergy and Intolerance Testing

Allergies, intolerances and conditions such as candida can make life a misery with symptoms like bloating, abdominal pain, constipation and diarrhoea, skin conditions, headaches, migraine, sleep problems ...

Several tests are now available to check for allergies, intolerances and candida. These include skin prick blood tests which are sent-off to a laboratory for results, and an intolerance blood test with results available within your appointment time.

Non-blood testing.
If you prefer a non-blood test there are several other methods available such as analysis of a food diary, dowsing and kinesiology-style muscle-testing.
Please contact me for more information.

Please note that changes to your diet should be done gradually and should never be radical or extreme. If you have a medical condition please talk with your medical consultant or GP before making changes to your diet or lifestyle.
